One of the important duties of The Garland County Sheriff's Department is the specialized unit, the Garland County Marine Patrol.

Garland County relies on this unit for water-based law enforcement due to its extensive lake system, which attracts heavy recreational boating traffic. The unit operates as part of the GCSO's Field Operations Division, which handles uniformed patrols across the county's 734 square miles.

Primary Duties: The Marine Patrol enforces boating laws, including navigation rules, speed limits, and safety regulations on county lakes. They conduct routine patrols, respond to maritime emergencies (e.g., accidents, drownings, or search-and-rescue operations), issue citations for violations like boating under the influence (BUI), and assist with crowd control during events like fishing tournaments or holiday boat parades.

Coverage Area: Focuses on Garland County's major waterways, particularly Lake Hamilton (a popular spot for tourism and recreation) and surrounding areas. They collaborate with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for wildlife-related enforcement.
